“The bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.”
i’m ada, a nineteen year old writer based in boston. i began ada’s film depository as a way to independently publish the film reviews i was writing for my high school’s newspaper. this has slowly become an account of nearly every new release i see, with occasional longer pieces about more general topics. articles vary in length, frequency, and structure, but i try to balance examinations of technique & aesthetic, personal enjoyment, moral quality, and cultural context. my criticism is in no way objective or professional — i just like writing about movies.
if you’d like, you can consider supporting me with a paid subscription. paid subscriptions don’t unlock any new content (i want all my writing to be available to anyone regardless), but they do help me to keep writing!
subscriptions are $5 monthly or $50 annually, and you can cancel anytime — no hard feelings. you can also become a founding member for any amount greater than $50 a year if you are feeling extra generous (suggested amount $75).
